Prepare a fine seedbed
Break up clumps and remove stones from the shallow planting strip. A fine surface gives small roots a more even start.
Check one edge
Use a finger or narrow tool to inspect the side of the row rather than pulling up the center. The seeds should be lightly covered, not buried under a thick layer of soil.
Protect moisture
Water gently with a fine spray and keep the surface evenly damp until emergence. A thin cover of fine compost can reduce crusting.
Thin after emergence
Once seedlings are visible, thin gradually to the spacing suited to the carrot variety. Avoid disturbing neighboring roots.
