How to Brush Moss from Outdoor Patio Pavers

Moss grows where pavers stay damp and shaded. Brushing removes the surface growth and reveals drainage or shade conditions that need attention.

Choose a dry day

Work when the surface is dry enough for the moss to lift. Wear gloves and shoes with good traction.

Brush the joints

Use a stiff hand brush along the paver faces and joints. Collect the loosened material instead of sweeping it into a drain.

Rinse carefully

Use modest water and direct runoff away from foundations. Avoid high pressure that strips joint sand or damages soft stone.

Reduce repeat growth

Trim overhanging vegetation, improve drainage, and allow the surface to dry when possible.
